Experience the rugged beauty of Namibia’s Kunene Region on a four-day safari in Kaokoland, where you’ll stay at Khowarib Lodge and venture into some of the area’s most remote landscapes. You’ll visit a traditional Himba village to learn about their semi-nomadic lifestyle and engage in wildlife tracking, with a special focus on the region’s desert-adapted elephants. The journey takes you through the scenic Hoarasib River area and involves wild camping near the Hoanib River, making it an ideal choice for travelers seeking an immersive and authentic Namibian safari experience.
Safari Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive at Khowarib Lodge for luxury and comfort on your first evening.
Day 2
Set off on a camping safari. Depart from Khowarib Lodge and head northwest on a challenging drive to the traditional village of Purros and explore the Hoarasib River and surrounding area. Overnight camping in the Purros Community Campsite.
Day 3
After breakfast, we visit the local Himba village to learn all about these semi-nomadic people, their culture and beliefs. Then we set of to explore the beauty of Kaokoland while tracking desert adapted elephants and any other game we can find. Spend time observing these unique animals. Wild camping in the Hoanib River near Amspoort.
Day 4
On your final day you drive off road through river beds tracking elephants to Sesfontein and on to Khowarib Lodge for arrival around midday.

Further Information
In case of emergencies, all Kunene safaris are equipped with satellite phone and full medical equipment. Medical evacuation can also be arranged (subject to clients having appropriate insurance)
All our safaris can be operated as a guided self drive (where you drive your own vehicle) OR as a guided safari (where your guide does the driving)
For those without their own transport we will be happy to help you with transport arrangements from Windhoek to the lodge or indeed your onward destinations.
